Taxman targets sporting events

Inspectors from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs will also be heading down to south London over the next few weeks. This is because they will be clamping down on people who rent out flats and houses for up to £15,000 a week to tennis fans and stars – but fail to declare the income.

Knight Frank says that five bedroom houses in Wimbledon are renting for between £8,000 and £15,000 a week this year. Some local residents are also renting out their drives for car parking, which this year is on offer for between £10 and £30 per car.

Trading standards officers will be looking for illegal traders and HMRC will be looking for people who have received money from them.
